DOUWANA ( Do You Wana) is our trade name for our
camp. We  provide
SOME items related to re-enactment
supplies for the
fur trade era of the early 1800's. We
can't provide every thing, but hope to enable every one the
"
links" to get the things they need,(or want).

We became involved with mountain man re-enacting
about 9 years ago. I took
Chris to her first rendezvous
(rondeevoo) near Fort Lupton. We didn't even have a tent
then! I had recently joined a local group called the
"
Tallow River Trappers" and even though I had some
experience, I was still a pilgrim, to say the least.

We were supposed to buy a tent when we got there, but
that deal fell through. We ended up borrowing a "
THING"
from one of the campers. It at least kept the rain off of
us, (well most of it anyway). Before the end of that
rendezvous, we bought a  "
REAL" tent from a trader.
It is the one we still use, although I keep adding on to it.
I made the rain fly and enclosure myself, among a few
other things. We seem to "pick-up" new (to us) items at
every rondeevoo we go to. As a matter of fact, we have SO
much "
STUFF", we are now "traders" = DOUWANA trade..

Being a part of "
Living History" is a great challenge,
and a lot of fun! You can become involved with little
investment. You can pick up items as you go, or get it
all at once,(even though you still "get" things
continuously). The best place to get started is at a
RENDEZVOUS!!! You can come out as you are. The first
item is usually a drop sleeve shirt, as worn by the
"
mountain men." After that, well?

At a rondeevoo, you will find good hearted, friendly
people, who are more than willing to visit, tell stories,
and teach about the
way of life of the 1800's. You can
learn the traits of starting a fire with flint and steel,
dutch oven cooking, throwing a tomahawk or a knife, or
even shooting a black powder muzzle loader! Learn how
to set a trap, weave on a loom, do bead work, wood
crafting, forging, or leather crafting. You could learn to

talk like a mountain man, or use sign language, as
used to communicate with the
Native American Indians.

OR just relax and enjoy being
outside, enjoying nature
and watching a beautiful
sunset.
